You are probably thinking this title is cliché and of course what could this guy have to say about maximizing your potential that other writers haven’t said already but need I say that writing is subjective; I.e. two or more person might be writing about the same thing but their writing style and mode of communication will most likely differ and one might minister to your soul more (I hope I am not sounding like a pastor)
First, I’d like to state that this is a sequel to discovering your potential because you must recognize that you have potential before you can then decide to take full advantage of it. The great men and women we have today weren’t born with exceptional amount of heads, ears or eyes and they also don’t have an extra hour added to the normal 24hours bestowed to us all. We all started life on the same track with exception of few personal obstacles on the way, the road to success is made with the pavement, no shortcuts. Below are few tips to help you maximize your potential and grab that greatness you desire.
BREAK THE NORM: having acknowledged that you are potential(s) personified, you must recognize that you are meant to take calculated and uncommon risk. Ever wonder why 1% of the world is at the top, wonder no more; this minute one percent are not super geniuses, they were/are just courageous enough to go against popular opinion and make crazy but tough decisions based on their faith in the success process.
Successful people take a chance on their instincts in the face of serious adversaries to bring about significant change. Trust me when I say, that can be overwhelming and scary, but remember no one apologizes for being great.
ALWAYS EXPECT MORE FROM YOURSELF: To really maximize your potentials you have to expect more from YOU and not others. Each morning you are engraced to see and experience beautiful sunrise, it should be an opportunity for you to look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself a personal and tenacious question, “How can I improve?” You need to have that independent confidence to challenge yourself daily by becoming your own motivating evaluator. I’d like to emphasize that, criticism can be good but it has to be constructive; because some critics are threatened by your potentials and decide to break your spirit simply by making you believe a wrong opinion about YOU.
OVERCOME YOUR FAILURES: Failure is part of success process. I know how frightening that statement sounds, but truthfully it need not be. Everyone is blessed with their unique potentials and the probability that you will fail at doing something which has never been done before is inevitable. So it’s normal to fail at first trial, but when you fail and you give up or perhaps didn’t learn any lesson what so ever from your failure, that’s abnormal. Failure can be a very damaging experience but you should also see it as a golden opportunity to begin differently and anew.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE THINKERS: “Show me your friends and I will tell you how great you can be”. You should surround yourself with people who will encourage you and help you stay focused. If you are amidst people who don’t have anything positive to say or can’t lift you up when you’re down, they can transfer their negative energy to you which can affect you negatively.
DON’T PROCRASTINATE: Even the bible says there is time for everything. Never put to tomorrow what you can do today. The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary. Time is an essential resource we all have evenly allocated to us; no one gets an extra minute added, so we should spend it wisely.
NEVER FORGET THE BASICS: Often times when people reach success, they despise the days of their humble beginning, forgets all about the principles and values that helped them to attain success in the initial stage. Maximization of potential happens when you religiously remember how you pulled off your first big break and use the same plan to sustain your achievement.
After all said above, you should also realize that those potentials are not meant for selfish interest, it is not originally yours; but God-given potentials. In the light of this, know that you’re part of God’s master plan to make a change in the world, glorify him with those gifts he carefully gave you and by letting your light shine; you are giving others the permission to do same.
