The Eagle Lesson…

Recently, I have been so fascinated by the Eagle- what makes it a special kind of bird I pondered, and in my research to satisfy my curiosity I stumbled upon this story of the eagle….

The Eagle has the longest life- span of its species,
It can live up to 70 years, but to reach this age, the eagle must make a hard
decision.
In its 40th year, its long and flexible talons can no
longer grab prey which serves as food,
Its long and sharp beak becomes bent,
Its old aged and heavy wings due to the thick
feathers, stick to its chest and  make it difficult to fly;
Then, the eagle is left with only two options: DIE or go
through a painful process of CHANGE which lasts 150
days.
The process requires that the eagle fly to a mountain
top and sit on its nest, there the eagle knocks its beak against a rock until it
plucks it out, wait for a new beak to grow back
and then pluck out its talons.
When the new talons grow back, the eagle starts
plucking its old-aged feathers.
And so after 5 months, the eagle takes its famous flight of
rebirth and lives for 30 more years…

Now tell me you don’t find that amazing as much as I did! But not to be carried away by how mind blowing the story is, let’s focus on the lessons therein- what are you willing to sacrifice for your greatness to shine forth? Is it your super nice comfort zone, or a precious friendship/relationship or that old norm and tradition you have lived by for so many years? Is it your fear of being successful or failing, or is it your inability to commit to a course? Whatever it is, are you willing to give it up for the greater good?
You must understand that success is not a beautifully wrapped free gift that you just pick up on your front porch, think of success as being more like a reward to hard work, sacrifices, doggedness, tenacity and courage; and if you remember correctly from the story above the eagle was rewarded with 30 more years to soar after an extremely painful exercise… So I dare ask you again- what are you willing to give up to be successful/ great?
